I’m Geoff Darby and I’m now retired. I’ve been retired actually for about 20 years. I’m an ex-CFO, having taken three companies public in Silicon Valley.
One of our buildings was what is now a Historic Landmark building in the center of San Francisco. We’d had a use for that building, the family had, and that disappeared after we’d refurbished this building. We tried for about a year and a half with normal realtors in the city of San Francisco to sell it. It was a difficult building because it was a landmark building, which meant you couldn’t demolish it and you had to look after all of the elements of it that made it into a specific landmark building. We tried for one and a half years.
We heard about Ten-X. We brought Ten-X in. And in the end, we were able to sell that building through auction. And it was about three months that Ten-X was involved from start to finish, putting that together and getting a sale.
In the end, it was about the best deal we could get at the time, because the building was a little bit specific. Yes it had all these great points, and it was a beautiful, effectively new building. But it was a Historic Landmark-type building, so you couldn’t bulldoze it and then build a brand new high-rise or whatever. So it’s a little bit difficult to sell but, at the end of the day we’re very very happy!
